Win a copy of AMERICAN RUST by Philipp Meyer

Well this is it… last day of the year and the decade! Seems like only yesterday that Carl and I were sitting on our couch on Courtland Street, sharing a very expensive bottle of wine, and watching the new millennium roll in country by country on TV (we didn’t even own a flat screen yet!), smugly sure that Y2K was nothing to fear. No stocking up on bottled water for us! It was a different world then. Surely. Before the election results of 2000. Before 9/11. Before neo-cons were in control. Before an historic election. Before the middle class of America started to become an endangered species…

Yikes, all this in ten years.

In fact, when thinking again on the best books that I read this year, I moved THE FINANCIAL LIVES OF THE POETS by Jess Walter to the #1 position. It speaks volumes for who we are today at this moment in time. And with any luck, it will be antiquated and quaint in another ten years, like reading a Y2K book now.

Our review team has each given a list of their favorites for this year and the lists can be found here. What about you? Which book or books moved you in 2009? Or in the last decade?

Take a moment and leave your thoughts/opinions on this page or any page of the site. I’ll even make it easy for you to do so by not requiring you to sign in for the next 5 days.

On Monday, January 18th, one person (within the U.S.)  who leaves a (legitimate, no spam) comment anywhere on this site, will be randomly selected to receive a free copy of AMERICAN RUST by Philipp Meyer.

Happy New Year!
