On yesterday’s photo walk (yes, I actually went on one finally)… I was taking photos of different textures and colors in hopes of using them in future creative exercises with photoshop.  I thought this one had merit all on its own.  So much texture!

I first ran it through Topaz deJpeg and then through Topaz Adust – Photo Pop, with an adjustment to detail. back in Aperture, I increased the yellow hue.

The  Friday Assignment on July 23rd was to include the “human element” in our photos.

On my second day home, my mom and I went shopping since I had to drop off my Mac at the Apple Store and then one place led to another.  In this photo we are in a new used clothing store.  I like the way they arrange everything by color and thought it worth a shot.  I took two photos… this one and one exactly the same but without any people in it. I guess I was thinking it would be more artsy (ha-ha).  When I looked at them later, I deleted the people-free photo… it was so boring. This occured before Karen posted the Friday assignment.  I wished I hadn’t permanently deleted the people-free photo so I could show you the difference and how a single person can make a big difference

THEME: Ball

I’ve been wracking my brain for what I could do for “ball.”  If you knew me, you’d know that me and balls don’t get along. There is a definite lack of eye – hand coordination on my part.  Then, I remembered that there is one ball that I’ve been getting along with… my pretty pink desert golf ball!  Due to rattlesnakes, the desert golf  is off for the summer season, so I almost forgot  that I owned a ball.  This shot idea came to me sometime in the middle of the night, so this morning I dug out my favorite club (this is a joke because we only use one club in the game) and headed over to the wash with ball and camera. THEME: Blossom

I actually had to look up the definition for “blossom” when I saw that we had this as a May theme.  ”Yikes,” I said to myself, “How is a ‘blossom” different from a ‘bloom?’ ”   So, now I know.  Blossoms are the flowers (or blooms) that happen on trees and bushes.

Because May Day feels like a day for flowers… and since our Friday assignment is to celebrate Karen’s birthday weekend… I decided to post this photo of pink Blossoms.  I wasn’t so very happy with the focus… so I punched up the clarity a bit with an Aperture preset and thus making the flowers look more painted than photographed. Enjoy!

Maybe if the wind ever stops blowing I’ll give this theme another go.  I saw my first Saguaro “blossom” yesterday… May is the month for these beautiful white flowers to bloom. O.K. I’m still a little confused between “blossom” and “bloom”  — I just know that it means for another month we get to post pics of our  favorite flower shots!

Mini Assignment: Crop

Last summer I took a lot of photo bike rides.  We stayed in Tucson, AZ for two months. As it was the two hottest months, July and August, it was most feasible to get up and out early.  Some days I just rode my bike and never stopped; other days, it was amazing I got any exercise at all because I would be so distracted by the photo opportunities.

In this photo, I was experimenting with the camera’s macro feature.  I was pleased that I managed to make my little camera behave like an SLR in that the flower buds are in focus and the background is out of focus.  And I was happy with the original shot.  I was thinking of using this for my “pink” shot, but just as I was getting ready to post, I decided to crop the image — just to see.  To my surprise, I like the cropped image better.
