Do you remember the July 2nd Friday Assignment? I went back to find that beach ball… it took a couple tries but I finally caught up with it. Here’s how it spent its summer vacation.

Look what I found on this morning’s bike ride! Yes, a beach ball! It’s only 5″ but who cares. Doesn’t it look like it is lost in a beach dune?
I experimented with the aperture setting on this. I took it at f/2.8 and f/5.6 and f/8. Normally, I’d say that the narrow depth of field would be the better shot, that is, if I wanted all the attention on the beach ball. But I don’t in this case. To fool the viewer that this is indeed a beach scene I think the f/8 shot is the best one.
But for the Friday Assignment, the f/2.8 s best, especially with a little vignette added:

You really will have to look at each photo enlarged to see the difference that the aperture makes on the focal point. I also think that the weed stems help frame the ball. I’d like say that contrast helps, but I think the colors are more complimentary than contrasting.
In the next one, there is no doubt what the focal point is… this is how I found the ball before I got off my bike and walked around to see what other shots there were:

Seems like once you see one ball, you see them everywhere. This is defective orange was found on a tree within a short walk from our site. I started off with the goal of taking a photo of the “green” “ball” — but found this one orange to be so intriguing – and photogenic.

While taking a walk around the park two nights ago, I came across this most perfect natural ball! Don’t you just love it?
Here’s a close=up taken the following morning… I wanted to see how the morning light changed the cactus. The whole cactus shot was better in the evening sunlight, the morning seemed better for the detail shot.

I’ve been wracking my brain for what I could do for “ball.” If you knew me, you’d know that me and balls don’t get along. There is a definite lack of eye – hand coordination on my part. Then, I remembered that there is one ball that I’ve been getting along with… my pretty pink desert golf ball! Due to rattlesnakes, the desert golf is off for the summer season, so I almost forgot that I owned a ball. This shot idea came to me sometime in the middle of the night, so this morning I dug out my favorite club (this is a joke because we only use one club in the game) and headed over to the wash with ball and camera.
