I’m a bit late in getting this message out.
The 2010 Photo Walk was a whole lot of fun and an interesting challenge. I do feel that I learned a lot and would love to go back and “fix” many of my photos… and maybe some day I will.
I’m grateful to Tammy, Karen S, Julie and Mary Lou for giving us the 2010 Challenge… and very, very appreciate of everyone’s time and effort that they put into commenting photos.
But onward to 2011 in which the challenge is to take photos of 365 themes.

Remember Lola and her cactus plants? I just barely caught the last two blossoms on this squirrelly cactus. It looks like it might have had 20 different blossoms on it over its blooming period, at least judging by how many dead flowers that Lola picked of this plant before giving it to me. Yup! That’s right. This one and about half dozen others are mine now. Lola flew back to live near her family in Iowa. I am going to miss her… but at least I have some of her favorite cactus.
I should also mention that I’m still trying to figure out the best way to take macro photos with the SX10 – it has a “Super Macro” mode in which you are supposed to the hold the camera almost right up against the subject matter but because the lens is fully retracted to 5mm, it takes a wide angle view. I really don’t mind the outcome, but its never what I expect. My other camera seems to do the digital macro better. (Karen, what’s your experience with super macro mode?)

At the spur of the moment, we drove up to Lake Havasu City yesterday afternoon to run some errands. It’s a gorgeous ride on 95N after you get past the Parker Strip, starting with Buckskin Mountain, up through the Parker Dam area, catching glimpses of the Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge and all the way into Lake Havasu City. For much of the way we follow the Colorado River… the same river that carved out the Grand Canyon also did a pretty nice job up through this cut. Unfortunately, there are not that many easy places to stop (well, I would have stopped at hundred spots, but I wasn’t driving… and we’d still probably be making our way up there if I was, or, rear-ended). On the way home I was promised one pull-off and here’s the view. I probably should have had Mr. Beachball with me.

Finally it is cool enough to hangout outside, but….

I mostly followed Doris’ instructions on how to make a frame… Since I used a black frame and the blog currently has a black background, you should enlarge if you really want to see it.
Post processing consisted of cropping, adding vibrancy to the rasberries and removing some of the saturation from the greenery, and added some vignette. All that was done in Aperture. I then sent it to PSE to be framed.
These berries were found on “Blueberry Hill.”
I have seen this pirate in my travels, too! This was taken May 23, 2002 in Key West (Canon PowerShot G2).

Tammy suggested that I try some different processing techniques on my Fantasy (mistake) photo. This is fun. All adjustments were made in Aperture. The last one is my own creation.

While waiting for a bird to show up for the Saguaro Fruit photo… I got a bit distracted with this old part of the Saguro cactus. In post processing, I worked on detail and hue.
Not so sure why I stayed in P mode while on the ladder… but might have had something to do with my early morning attempts at the sunrise.. which came out in all the wrong colors. And then later I had a bunch of blurry bird shots. I guess I was tired of trying and just wanted the photo to come out right.
Time to go back and read the camera book again.
