The  Friday Assignment on July 23rd was to include the “human element” in our photos.

On my second day home, my mom and I went shopping since I had to drop off my Mac at the Apple Store and then one place led to another.  In this photo we are in a new used clothing store.  I like the way they arrange everything by color and thought it worth a shot.  I took two photos… this one and one exactly the same but without any people in it. I guess I was thinking it would be more artsy (ha-ha).  When I looked at them later, I deleted the people-free photo… it was so boring. This occured before Karen posted the Friday assignment.  I wished I hadn’t permanently deleted the people-free photo so I could show you the difference and how a single person can make a big difference

That woman shopping is my mother, by the way.

Another July theme.  On my first day, my mom and I stopped at Brookdale’s, our favorite farm stand in Hollis, NH after visiting my youngest sister in Townsend, MA.  We decided to have an all fresh farm-picked vegetable dinner.  It was so delicious!  Lucky for me everything is about 2 weeks early this year.  I don’t know how this pic will work for others, but for me there is a certain amount of comfort/nostalgia seeing the dishes so nicely laid out with placements and napkins… and there’s always that one odd dish that doesn’t match.

ISO 80; f/2.8; 1/50 7.7mm (Canon SD950 IS)  Not sure I even had my glasses on yet.

I love waking up in a tent and this morning was no exception.  Devon and I were only camping in Fred’s yard… but still the smell and the light in the tent thrilled me.  It is a space that I won’t ever be tired of.

I had to take a break from posting to catch up on my MostlyFiction work… so I’m still working on some July Themes.

It rained yesterday. Not for long, but long enough.  The sky was so full of clouds that it made for a terrific sunset.

I’m still having trouble capturing the right colors in the sky either at sunrise or sunset.  I’ve played with the white balance in the camera and no luck.  So I used Aperture to bring out the colors as I saw them and had Carl verify for quality control!

Isn’t this an amazing sky?

Workers at the airport made a great subject for practicing blur. For awhile, there wasn’t anyone around except airport employees.

These were taken with the Canon SD950IS  – as it much more discreet in a public situation.  I added a bit of vignette.

Funny thing is, we do have a Yacht Club in Quartzsite.  I had intended to get a photo of the seagull on the mooring, but apparently they store the seagull for the summer season; as like most everything here, the Yacht Club is closed for the season. First hint that it’s not a real yacht club, huh?

I am leaving for NH tomorrow evening… so I hope to get a better nautical photo during my vacation… if not nautical at last the seaside!

Tammy suggested that I try some different processing techniques on my Fantasy (mistake) photo. This is fun. All adjustments were made in Aperture. The last one is my own creation.

I have been trying to capture the perfect Quail photo for months. You know why I can’t? MOVEMENT! These have got to be the most skittish birds in the desert!

ISO 80; f/8; 1/200; 100mm (June 28, 2010; 7:44am)

This is one of my better ones.  Good for the theme because you can see the movement in the leg.

I found this outfit last January during the peak of the shows — during my first photowalk.  It didn’t quite fit any of the themes (or me)… but I’m glad since I think I’ve learned a few tricks and seen some good ideas about post-processing that I didn’t know in January.

In Aperture, I burned and gave definition to the glitter, saturated the red and yellow hues, desaturated the blue hues. Considering this photo was taken mid-day (I was such a amateur back then!), I’m pleased the way the photo came out.

My favorite part of the photo… when I took it and still now… is the sign for plus sizes right next to this skimpy little outfit!  Talk about a fantasy!
