UPDATE:

I worked on getting the eyes a bit clearer.  Of course, if I had just taken a better photo to begin with, I wouldn’t have to be trying every trick in the book to make clear eyes!  This time I used the definition paint brush as Julie recommended, then ran it through Topaz ADJUST — Mild Color Pop.  I then painted the eyes again with the definition paint brush.  Acutally I tried about dozen things… but I’m pretty that was the work flow on this one.

I just treated myself and purchased the Topaz bundle!  Oh my!  So many choices! After fixing a deep facial shadow from the mask in Aperture, then a trip out to Photoshop to take care of the slight blur, I then came back to Aperture and ran it through Topaz Denoise, and then finally settled on “Portrait Smooth” in the Topaz Adjust package.

Would appreciate any comments / suggestions from people with experience with these packages. Continue reading »

One of our “younger” residents died about a month ago.  He was 62 years old.  It was both expected and a surprise at the same time. We knew he had been in and out of the hospital for the past half year and we also knew he had not changed his life style.  But he seemed like himself. In fact, the day before he died, he heartedly greeted Carl and I as we rode our bikes past his place.  He had quite a few people partying with him and perhaps he was inviting us to join. We waved and rode on. I wish we had stayed to toast to his life.

His sister, brother-in-law and brother flew in to take care of his property. I took this photo of the hanging jacket at their yard sale. Something I did not know about him until that moment was that this guy loved leather jackets… at least twenty were still hanging and apparently some had already left the premises.

When I processed this  photo I desaturated the red and then painted the red hue back into the jackets.  The green leaves were left untouched because these leaves are always blowing around the park.  I think this “tree” was sitting outside during a wind storm once.  Bits of Mike Berryman.

By the way, this is the same person who owned the subject for the theme “neglected” earlier this year.

I’m sure someone must have given this gy to Mike because it looks like him.  Mike was very good at hanging out with his buddies (another use of the hanging theme)!  May he rest in peace. And if you stop by Silly Al’s raise a glass to him.

Tony is not actually a professional sewer man… but the way he works, you would think that he is.  I was most impressed with the way he didn’t flinch even when sewer water trickled out of this live pipe and he sound advice was yelled down to him to “don’t lick your lips!”

As I’ve mentioned before, Holiday Palms RV Park (where I live) is in the process of connecting to the town sewer.  For the last week or so, at the end of the day I have been photographing the sewer pipes as they are laid in the ditches (the camera of original designated photographer broke).  This is an effort to document what’s there before it is buried.  Naturally I see this as an opportunity to gather some of my own photos as well.  Such as this one.

I had my eye on this cactus for a few days before I finally took these photos (at end of September).  I decided the best time was the middle of the afternoon while the cactus blossom was still open.  Early morning the light was wrong and by the time the “evening glow” occurs, this bud is closed up tight.

I can’t believe its Oct 6th and I’m finally getting around to posting these!
